How Do You Kite With An Aion Ranger?

aion-ranger

Most players, roll a ranger class because they like fighting at a distance. The ranger brings quiet a few skills in its arsenal to enable them to succeed at fighting in this manner. These are excellence at using the bow, able to shoot while running and the use of snares and traps, However, it's main disadvantage is their fragile amour, though partially mitigated with evasion. So distance is important, and keeping that distance up is the secret of the Rangers combat advantage.

Keeping Opponents at a Distance

Kiting is a mmorpg term used to describe the ability to keep the enemies at a distance, while still being able to attack them. This is very useful against melee based characters, since if they cannot reach you, they cannot hurt you. Since the ranger does not have to stop when firing the bow, this can be very frustrating for the melee opponents, since they are taking damage while trying to catch up with the ranger. In order to be fully successful at this, you also need to master traps and snaring.

Time Your Snares

Given enough armour and room, the opponent can eventually catch you, so kiting itself is not enough. In addition you will also have to slow them down somehow. This is where snaring helps. This does exactly whats needed, slow them down. The Skill Set starts of with the Snare Arrow Skill. You need to make sure you snare him at the optimum time. Too early, you missed the opportunity to fire of some arrows at them before they notice and started running towards you. Applying a snare too late, means that you may not be able to fire enough arrows to kill them before the snare wears off, and they catch up to you. So timing is important and requires some practise.

Later on the Ranger get Stuns, that stop them dead in their tracks. Together with Snares, these can be devastating as the Ranger has time to set up some Lethal Combination shots. So hot key some good combo shots, as you want to set them off as quickly as possible.

Place Your Traps Well

Another encumbering effect available to the rangers, is traps. Traps start at level 13, with the snare trap, and later on the Air trap that shackles the enemy in place. There are other traps that reveal invisible players, such as Assassins, or cause a bleed effects, but the traps that slow down an opponent are the most useful. But be careful with some of the traps, as they can be canceled with any damage done to the opponent. So make sure you are at maximum bow distance before resuming your attack. Snare trap, do have a 30s cooldown, so with some well placed stuns, you may have time to lay another.

Traps are also a source of Kinah drain, as they cost various amounts of tripeed seeds to set them up. Together with the cost of arrows, Rangers can be costly to play. So take up a craft, or find some good Kinah grinding spots, so that you always have plenty of Kinah available to buy combat materials. A good Kinah Making Guide may also be worthwhile if you want to be self-sufficient.

Rangers are a great class to play if you learn all aspects of this class, not just how to use the bow and arrow. If your need to learn more tips on how to play the Aion Ranger to it maximum performance, we recommend the Aion Ranger Guide.
